Weeknotes are back! After some weeks without publishing any, I'm feeling motivated again thanks to recent notes by Etienne "Tek" Maynier, Julie Brillet, Thomas Parisot and Benjamin Bouvier.
I realized I was missing the feedback these notes give me to myself, and the sense of sharing with others outside of my inner circle. (I'm tentatively doing them in english this time, let's see how it goes!)
- ❤️❤️❤️ Felt the peace that having a separate office gives me. I can leave all things related to work at work, and I'm starting to harvest the benefits out of it. Some evenings not opening a computer, also it makes me more motivated to work when I do, and more motivated to leave when I'm done.
- ❤️❤️❤️ Enjoyed having a lot of music in my life again. Having a gig planned in a few day generates motivattion and drive, so yay to deadlines, I guess! Also, singing and improvising with others using Circle Songs was a rediscovery. I can only recommend Gaël Aubrit.
- ❤️❤️ Changed the way I interact and plan my days, leading me to more concise and to the point discussions. It's good to have a set goal and manage to avoid deviating too much from it.
- ❤️❤️ Took some perspective about my pro life, thanks to a skills assessment process that will take around 6 months. I'm really happy about the person helping: already some learnings after the second meeting.
- 💔 I really want to ship the project I've been working on for the last three quarters, but it's a long beast to tame. I need to stay focussed to get it trough, and it's sometimes hard and generating some demotivation. I re-route myself to the important tasks rather than opening new pandora boxes. Pragmatism (and avoiding traps) are muscles I would like to develop.
Resources
- 📖 I'm halfway trough "Empire of AI" by Karen Hao, which is documenting OpenAI origins, with a look at the political views behind it. It's very well documented, even if sometimes I would like it to be more to the point. That being said, I find it fascinating to have a closer look at personalities like Sam Altman and Elon Musk, and — spoiler — it takes a lot of lies and persuasion to be where they are.
- 🎬 I've started the Empathie, a canadian series where you follow a psychiatrist operating in a criminal setup. Damn, I so much love it. The characters are great, the way it's filmed and directed makes it a real joy to watch. At least some... well, empathy!
- 📱 I finally read GrapheneOS documentation, and it was a pleasure to read, probably because it just conveys the right amount of information for me.
- 🔑 Signal just posted an article about how they implemented what they called Triple Ratchet, a way to have post-quantum double ratchets. I really liked how they explained it in a way that's understandable for crypto non-experts like me.
- 🤡 I went to see a clown show by Tiphus Bronx, « Trop près du mur », and it really got me on a few jokes. Hard truths at times, and the performance was really there.
- ☕ Coffe seem to have some health benefits, if consumed at not too-high volume (source). Interesting, where I though it would be the opposite. Let's start ;)
