The relief of publishing what represents almost a year of work, and pacing myself to enjoy life better.
What happened
Dangerzone / Freedom of the Press Foundation:
- Whoa! Dangerzone 0.10.0 is out! We finally did it 🙌🏼 So glad we're there. It will be way easier to update the containers now, and folks don't need to install Docker Desktop anymore. This represents almost a year of work between understanding the stack and protocols, designing, implementing, testing, releasing RCs, etc. We weren't planning on this, but having a story that works across different OSes was a ride.
- I've worked on speeding things up when doing OCR (character recognition), and was about to do a x2.4 speed-up on a quite beefy machine, converting a 200 pages PDF in 45 seconds.
- We proposed a talk at FOSDEM, let's see how it goes!
- I've started to look at the open issues, to categorize them and have a better overview of what we're missing in the long run.
Open source projects:
- Ihatemoney: I've been contacted by some folks interested in taking the release and maintenance hat/gloves. They're still thinking things trough, so we'll see how it goes, but that's very interesting to note that folks find it more intuitive than other projects out there. I want to take some time to formalize what I think could be done to improve the current situation, and imagine the best transition possible.
Feelings
- ❤️❤️❤️ Cancelling events that would have been too much. Just staying at home and enjoying relax time.
- ❤️❤️❤️ Spent some time to help on-the-field folks about securing their usages. A good reminder that being too technical isn't always useful.
- ❤️❤️ Taking the time to write an article about my feelings on AI, and translate it for french-only speakers.
- ❤️❤️ Not opening computers at home when that's possible. Have you heard of books?
- 💔 Phone time isn't screen time, or is it? I've been scrolling way more than before 🙄.
Read, Seen, Listened-to, Played
- 📖 I started reading Frapper l'épopée, by Alice Zeniter.
- 🎬 I went to the movies and watched… Zootopia 2. I actually had a great time. Not perfect, but there is some social critique in there :-)
- 🎬 Watched Bugonia, from Yorgos Lanthimos, followed by a documentary called The Consipiracists where a convicted "Jan 6" felon takes a British filmmaker and an American ethnographer on a road trip and attempts to convert them to her world of conspiracy theories. Interesting connections between the two movies.
- 🎧 Listened to the 4 episodes of "Fanfares, une histoire en marche", on LSD. I was interested in learning a bit more of history behind them, especially as some of them propose an alternative view on what music can be. The last episode was especially interesting, and got me chills.
- ▶︎ A video where Celia Izoard is talking about extractivism, especially in the context of a lithium mine in France. It's based on her book about the topic, that I've been wanting to read for quite some time now. I especially like how she's speaking, which really serves her message.
